Partner Spotlight: Jeannie Stewart, Parent Advisory Council Member
Stewart Family
One of the newest members of the Parent Advisory Council has already started using her voice and advocacy skills to tell other parents about how the Cuyahoga Tapestry System of Care can transform a family's home life. Recently, in an article for the Call & Post Newspaper, Jeannie Stewart was asked to describe the positive changes in her family since joining Tapestry. She laughed and said, "Well, the 'before picture' was everybody wringing each other's neck -everybody had ahold of somebody! Now, in the 'after picture,' we've got the laughing, happy smiley faces. It's a big improvement." The Parent Advisory Council, with members selected by the neighborhood collaboratives, has representation on all the system of care committees. Partner Spotlight: Audrey Rush and Avril Sargeant of PEP Tapestry
During a school meeting with her child's teacher and her Cuyahoga Tapestry System of Care coordination team, a mother who had been struggling with managing the needs of her son, who has a serious emotional disturbance, showed hope and elation where there had once been only desperation. "She said, 'I got my team in the house!'" relates PEP supervisor Audrey Rush, praising the persistence and confidence-building skills of the mother's care manager, Avril Sargeant. "We weren't there to tell the mother how to run her life, but to work together with her and her child as a team to get the right services and supports." Today, PEP operates many programs including ten Day Treatment Centers, two Early Childhood Centers, Day Care Plus, Help Me Grow, Connections, Tapestry, Group Homes, and PEP Assist. PEP touches the lives of 3,000 children and their families annually. To learn about all our partner agencies and organizations, view our Who’s Who of Agencies.
